[ Editor's note: Ericka Smiley, daughter of Lawrence and Rachel Smiley, is on an around-the-world trek that has taken her, most recently, to New Zealand, where she literally took a step of faith. The following is Ericka's first-person account of her brush with bungy jumping. P.S., Lawrence and Rachel still haven't fully recovered from their fainting spell! ]
HI GUYS!!! GUESS WHAT???!!!! YES, YOU GUESSED IT, YOU NOW HAVE A BUNGY JUMPER IN YOUR ACQUAINTANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOAH……. IT WAS CRAZY!
So, I’m in Queenstown, NZ – famous for crazy things – and Mark had asked me a bit ago if I was going to bungy jump. "No, of course not. Too much money, I don’t want to." Well, I guess I changed my mind.
I figured I’m only in QTown once, and might as well, huh? And, I had been thinking it was kind of like a faith thing too… we’re up on that ledge with Jesus, and it looks REALLY SCARY, and no one with a SANE mind would ever leap out, head-first, over the bridge, especially not with rubber bands attached to their ankles (and really that’s all it was… 2,000 skinny/tiny/little rubber bands, bunched together in about a 1 1/2 inch diameter rope!!!!)
Trusting my life with that?
