Kids Stuff Sale REMINDER!

Just a reminder, KSS –CATC is still looking for volunteers to help serve on Friday & Saturday (April 20-21) at the Kids Stuff Sale at the church.  If you have the time to assist, they would greatly appreciate your assistance.   From talking to others who have served at this event in the past, I understand this is a wonderful opportunity for both the volunteers and the young mothers who ultimately benefit from this event.  Attached is a flyer along with the contact information if you are able to help.

Please visit Kids Stuff Sale to sign up and for additional information. Thank you.

MOPS help needed

Below is an email from John and Val Angove about an upcoming event and opportunity, not only for Church at the Crossing, but also those in the community.  If you are available to volunteer on Friday April 20thor Saturday, April 21st, please email Stephanie at Volunteer@kidstuffsale.org.   Remember, anyone who volunteers gets to shop first!!

As you know, the goal of the Kids Stuff Sale is to stage an event that attracts the community to MOPS, to CATC, and ultimately to Christ.  Enclosed is a flyer that provides some background.  What I personally appreciate (being a bargain hunting new mom) is the opportunity to save a substantial amount of money on clothes, toys, equipment (e.g. jogging stroller, swing), and related items!

Surprisingly the sale has involved mostly people from outside of CATC which hinders the outreach opportunity we have through the sale.  That’s where I’m hoping to ask for your involvement. Sadly there was quite a bit of theft that occurred which only taints our reputation as a congregation I think, but we believe that just having a “presence” from CATC at the sale might dissuade opportunities for dishonest merchandise gain.

I’ve obtained a list of some ways for CATC groups/ministries to become involved.  Do you think you can share the news about the sale with your Sunday Sschool Class to ask if they might be willing to champion one (or more) of the below areas?

  • Door Greeters - at Door 2, and possibly at the Youth Center–we’re still trying to figure out traffic flow
  • Floaters - during the sale Saturday, handing out shopping bags, available to answer questions like “Where are the clothes?”, “Where do I pay?”, “Where’s the restroom?”
  • Donut Holes, Coffee & Greeters - for the shoppers who begin lining up around 6:15 a.m.
  • Security Presence - for Friday night, during the pre-sale, <– Need about 6
  • Security Presence - for Saturday, 7:45 a.m. to noon <– Need about 6
  • Muscles - to help carry large items out to cars, 1 or 2 both Friday & Saturday
  • Hospitality for the Committee - Our food coordinator this year is Christy Brinkruff. Right now it’s part of her role to make sure we have the food when we need it. It would be super helpful, though, to have someone pick up a meal or two for the committee.
  • McDonald’s Coke/Diet Coke run. - Large drink in a foam cup. $1 each. Small price to pay for a big pick-me-up! This would be perfect Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday
  • Starbuck’s run
  • “Surprise” Huddles run

I’m hoping there can be more of a CATC presence this year.  If interested, please contact me via email anc.jec@att.net

Thanks so much!

Info on the Kids Stuff Sale:

On Indianapolis’ Far Northside, Jen Cox said she’s seen tremendous growth in the Kid Stuff sale at Church at the Crossing, near the HamiltonCounty line. Mothers of Preschoolers put on the volunteer-run nonprofit one-day sale April 21. Cox said they’ve had to put a cap on the number of consignors because of space restrictions.  The sale in 2010 began accepting credit cards and this year introduced bar code tagging, which allows consignors to track their sales and speed up the checkout process. In the past decade, the sale has tripled its gross sales. Last year’s top 10 sellers took home an average of $783 in profits, Cox said. One of the most gratifying parts of the sale for Cox is hearing stories from shoppers. “We have families who count on the sale to clothe all of their children for the coming year,” she said. Plus, consignors may donate any items they don’t sell to Blue River Community Harvest.
